Maldivian Defence Chief on State Tour Calls on Commander

Minister of Defence and National Security of Maldives Colonel (Retd) Mohammed Nazim psc, currently on a state visit to Sri Lanka, together with a four-member military delegation, paid a courtesy call on the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya Thursday (19) afternoon at Army Headquarters.

The visiting Maldivian Minister of Defence and National Security earlier called on His Excellency, the President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the Secretary Defence & Urban Development Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa before his interaction with the Commander of the Army this afternoon.

The Maldivian Defence Ministry delegation is comprised of two senior Brigadiers and two Colonels.

Discussions between the visiting Defence Minister and the Commander of the Army centered largely on bilateral military co-operation and Sri Lanka’s continuing training support being extended to military officers of the Maldivian Armed Forces, here in different Army training establishments. Minister Nazim thanked Sri Lanka Army for its allocation of training slots for budding Maldivian military officers. At present, five Maldivian military officers are under training at different Army training centres in Sri Lanka.

Exchange of mementos towards the end of the interaction culminated the day’s itinerary of the visiting Maldivian delegation.
