One more new house, constructed under the Seva Vanitha Army Branch’s (SVAB) house construction project for disable or missing War Heroes or their families, saw its warming on Thursday (10) at Kurusagoda, Gonapinuwala, Baddegama during a ceremony.
Sergeant J.M Neil Rupasinghe of 9 Gemunu Watch (GW) during the humanitarian operations made the supreme sacrifice in a landmine explosion that took place at a remote area in Mullaittivu. The SVAB with the active financial support received from many well-wishers, including the GW Seva Vanitha Unit, Gonapinuwala Pradeshiya Sabha, Gramodaya Village Development Society cost Rs. 1 million for the completion of the entire project.
Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President, SVAB, the lady behind the success of the entire project was present at the venue Thursday (10) morning to hand over the set of keys to the spouse and the children of the fallen War Hero.
The SVAB erected the new house in the beneficiary’s own land at Kurusegoda and the house cost Rs. 1 million. Children of the fallen War Hero and his wife offering betel welcomed the Chief Guest, Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya. Mrs Chintha Udumalagala, Chairperson, GW Seva Vanitha Unit also received the chief guest warmly.
A religious ceremony that followed invoked blessings and offered alms to eight Buddhist monks shortly after the house was formally inaugurated. Mrs Jayasuriya joined the occasion offering an ‘Atapirikara’ to the members of the Maha Sangha.
Before her exit, she gifted a dinner set as a token of goodwill to the spouse of the fallen War Hero. A large group of Seva Vanitha members, Regimental Seva Vanitha Chairpersons, relatives, neighbours and senior officers attended the occasion.
