Parents of Air Force War Hero Offer Assistance to Buy Artificial Limb to Army Rifleman

Cementing the bonds of comradeship and understanding between them further, parents of a fallen War Hero in the Sri Lanka Air Force have volunteered to donate an artificial limb to an Army War Hero, sustained injuries in the Wanni Humanitarian Operations, during the monthly meeting of the Seva Vanith Army Branch (SVAB) held Thursday (28) evening at Defence Services School auditorium.  

This unique gesture of Mr. P. S. Punchihetti and Mrs. Seetha Punchihetti, the parents of the fallen Air Force War Hero Flight Lieutenant Ruwan Lamahetti, offered a sum of Rs.120,000/= to Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President SVAB for purchase of the artificial limb to Rifleman K. G. I. C Rathna Kumara, Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment.  

The SVAB membership lauded those parents for their thoughtfulness and the sense of cordial friendship shown to the Army as a symbol of goodwill since the donation turned to be the limelight of the day’s proceedings.    

During the same meeting, a number of munificent philanthropists offered financial assistance to the SVAB in appreciation of its welfare roles, meant for disable War Heroes and their families.

The proceedings of the day began with recitation of the Seva Vanitha song which was followed by a two-minute silence in honour of all the fallen War Heroes.

Mr. Mayura Wasantha and friends who have been frequently extending their support to SVAB projects once again donated a sum of Rs.1 million for construction of a new house for Lance Corporal P. G. N. P. M. S Nagoda and another Rs.40,000/= to Private D. P. R. D Nishantha and Rs.60,000/= to Private C. P Sarath Kumara for renovation and improvements of their existing houses.  

One more regular donor, Mobitel Telecom was generous enough to make more financial donations. It gave away Rs. 100,000/= each for the construction of wash rooms to the War Hero Corporal S. P. G Sampath Kumara and Rifleman D. M. D Bandara on the same occasion. It also donated a separate sum of Rs.175,000/= to Private Vijitha Kumara for completion of his partly built house.

Mrs. Manjulika Jayasuriya handed over these donations to respective recipients during the meeting session. At the same occasion some more donations were made to Warrant Officer I. K. P Jayamanna, Warrant Officer II Premalal K. M. W and Private S. N. R Ranasinghe for completion of their partly complete houses. Three of them received Rs. 100,000/=, Rs. 300,000/= and Rs. 200,000/= respectively. Trooper K. M. S Bandara meanwhile, received a sum of Rs. 1 million for the construction of a new house. Another Rs.100,000/= was donated to Major E. A. D. K Suriyakumara as medical expenditure following initiatives taken by the SVAB.

Towards the end of the day’s agenda, Singer Sri Lanka conducted a workshop on sewing at the request of the SVAB.
