‘Husma Dena Thuru’ 2nd Phase Launched

1st anniversary of the ‘Husma Dena Thuru’ (Trees that give breath) national project, launched jointly by the Central Environment Authority, Ministry of Environment and the Army was marked near the new leisure park (walking track) this morning (21).

Hon Minister of Environment, Mahinda Amaraweera, Dr Anil Jasinghe, Secretary to Ministry of Environment, Major General Vikum Liyanage, Chief of Staff and a few others joined planting few sandalwood saplings to mark the anniversary.

During the same anniversary programme, Hon Minister handed over a new stock of mango saplings to the Chief of Staff for distribution among the troops serving to promote organic fertilizer production.

Major General Indu Samarakoon, Commander, Army Logistic Command, Major General Deepal Pussella, Adjutant General, Major General Samantha Wickramasena, General Officer Commanding, 14 Division and few Senior Officers took part in the day’s programme.

The 1st programme of the project was inaugurated with the participation of the HE the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, adding an appreciative recognition for Army efforts to afforest semi-urban areas and beautify environs around the Army HQ area.

During Monday’s programme, all Senior Officers enthusiastically joined others by planting Sandalwood saplings.

The programme was initiated last year during the height of pandemic and troops could not actively propagate the control measures.
