Zambian Army Chief to Prepare MOU with Sri Lanka Army for Exchange of Training Modules

“I wish to convey on behalf of my dedication and greetings to the President of this Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, the Prime Minister, Army Chief and all the people in Sri Lanka, this great Nation. I also want to convey our deep condolences to our brothers and sisters who sacrificed their lives in the recent terrorist attacks and the war. They are heroes and heroines who rest in peace. I want to thank Lieutenant General Shavendra, your Army Commander for his grace and the invitation extended me to come and visit this great Nation”, so said the visiting Zambian Army Commander Lieutenant General Sikazwe.

“We came a long way to Sri Lanka. Going back to the memories of the 2nd World War, our troops in Zambia who were on their way to Burmar (Myanmar) at that time passed through Sri Lanka here. We had unique opportunity to train our troops with your Commander’s blessings. They were trained for 6 months before they went into Burmar (Myanmar) in Sri Lanka. It was historic. Then another time, from they also passed through Sri Lanka again before they went to that war. So I can see the historic cases back to the 2nd World War times. Now I am here invited by the Army Commander. We can then learn from our colleagues here because yours is an Army that has done much.”

“I want to thank my dear General here Shavendra for what he offered to us. We saw and have observed the function of the Sri Lanka Military Academy at Diyatalawa. We are in the process of defining an MOU. Once that MOU becomes effective then we will have exchange of staff and several other things to come. I am happy that General who has invited me and I also invite him to come and visit Zambia. And I know he is going to accept our invitation. May God bless you,” he remarked.
