Continuing the Army’s school revival project, patronized by the Lions Club, 1 Sri Lanka National Guard (1 SLNG) troops of the 143 Infantry Brigade renovated two buildings at Maddepola Primary School located in Giriulla and formally left them in the school authorities on 28 March 2023 during a simple ceremony.
The Lions Club after the request was made by the school turned to the Army for assistance in coordination with Major General Deepal Pussella, Commander, Security Forces - West. Army soldiers carried out renovations and colourwashed the dilapidated walls and both buildings under the close supervision of Brigadier Faumie Kitchilan, Commander, 143 Infantry Brigade and Major K.A.S.P Kumara, Commanding Officer (CO) of 1 SLNG.
Meanwhile, in parallel to the same project, the school playground was also re-done and renovated by the Lions Club. Further, materials and funds for both projects were also provided by members of the Lions Club.
On the invitation of the school staff, Commander, 143 Infantry Brigade, CO of 1 SLNG, Officers, Other Ranks and officials of Lions Club attended the re-opening of renovated school buildings and the playground.
