8 Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry (8 SLLI) troops under the 141 Infantry Brigade of the 14 Infantry Division under the Security Force HQ - West were quick to act and clear a big ‘Nuga’ tree that had fallen on the Pugoda - Delgoda main road, near Pananwala due to heavy rains in the evening hours on Thursday (11).
The uprooted tree stalled traffic on the Pugoda - Delgoda main road and caused damage to three houses located on either side of the road as a result of the incident.
Five Officers and 35 Other Ranks of 8 SLLI rushed to the venue and actively contributed their assistance to clear and remove the Nuga tree from the road with the support of policemen at Dompe Police Station.
In addition, troops provided assistance to hospitalize four civilians in the affected three houses who sustained minor injuries in the emergency and moved their belongings to safer locations until they return after medical treatment.
The Army assistance was closely supervised by the Commander, 141 Infantry Brigade and the Commanding Officer of 8 SLLI on the instructions of the General Officer Commanding, 14 Infantry Division and the Commander, Security Forces - West.
