Wanni Troops in Hundreds Support Mammoth Offer of Alms to 5000 Nuns

Troops of the 21 Infantry Division and Security Force HQ-Wanni extended their maximum co-operation and generosity towards successful conduct of an alms-giving for 5000 Buddhist nuns at Mihintale on Monday (26) on the directions of the Commander of the Army and the Ministry of Defence.

Ven. Bodagama Chandima Thero, Chief Sanga Nayaka for Taiwan and Chancellor, Sri Nagananda International Buddhist University patronized the offer of alms to those 5000 nuns, resident in the entire sacred region and those engaged in religious retreats in Anuradhapura.

Troops on the guidelines given by Major General Champaka Ranasinghe, Commander, Security Forces-Wanni, together with the guidance of the Commander, Forward Maintenance Area-North Central, General Officer Commanding - 21 Infantry Division, Brigadier General Staff - SFHQ-Wanni and Brigade Commanders set up temporary huts and seating arrangements for nuns after they completely cleaned up and decorated the location around the Anula Maha Seya at Mihintale still under renovation.

On the date of the alms-giving, hundreds of troops conducted the nuns to the venue in procession and took part in the offer of alms to those four-digit number of Buddhist nuns.

Chief Incumbents at Mihintale Raja Maha Vihara and Sri Pada, Ambassador of Vietnam in Sri Lanka, Commander Security Forces-Wanni, Commander, Forward Maintenance Area-North Central, General Officer Commanding, 21 Infantry Division, Brigade Commanders, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks, in addition to a large crowd of monks and devotees attended the event.
