Troops of the 211 Brigade in the 21 Division under the Security Force HQ - Wanni on Thursday (4) during a search at Isinbasinagala, Medawachchiya apprehended a suspect with 4.4 kg of Kerala Ganja (cannabis) on intelligence while he was trying to take the stock out of the area for sale.
Troops handed over the suspect with cannabis to the Kebithigollewa Police station for further investigations.
In the meantime, 7 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) troops of the 543 Brigade of the 54 Division in Mannar under the SFHQ-Wanni apprehended a stock of smuggled turmeric during a search conducted on the Mannar Brigade Roadbolck on Thursday (4) while the suspicious vehicle was trying to transport the stock elsewhere illegally.
The 205 kg stock of raw turmeric was worth about Rs 1.23 million. The contraband was handed over to Mannar Police for further investigations.
