With the objective of further promoting athletics among troops serving different Divisions of the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W), an Inter Divisional Athletic Meet got underway for two days (July 22-24) at Sampathnuwara Mahaweli Playground.
The Inter Divisional Athletic Meet was inaugurated by General Officer Commanding, 62 Division on behalf of Major General Boniface Perera, Commander, SFHQ-W in the presence of more than 500 athletes of all Divisions.
Athletes of the 62 Division carried away the overall championship - 2014 while 21 Division and 54 Division athletes emerged first and second runners-up respectively.
The woman soldier, Private I.Y.K Illangatillake of 4 Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps and Corporal N.M.L.U Navaratne of 11 Gemunu Watch, were respectively adjudged the Best Female Athlete and the Best Male Athlete in the Athletic Meet.
