Wanni Headquarters Makes Offerings to Sri Maha Bodhi Sapling

The Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi sapling, expected to be planted at Bodhgaya, India to coincide with the forthcoming 2600 Sri Sambuddhathwa Jayanthi (enlightenment of the Buddha) anniversary, was recently taken to the Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni (SFHQ-W) for veneration of the troops serving the area.

Major General A.K.S Perera, Commander SFHQ-W along with senior officers received the Bo sapling with respect and made offerings as members of the Maha Sangha recited Pirith. It was flown to Vavuniya after its public display in Jaffna. A colourful procession conducted the sacred tree branch to the SFHQ-W from the airfield before it was taken to Sri Sudarshanarama temple at Vavuniya for veneration and public exposure.

An all night Pirith chanting ceremony, the same night and a special alms giving on the following day culminated the programme at Sri Sudarshanarama temple. It was later on taken in procession to the historic Dambulla rock temple.
