16 Gajaba Regiment troops of the 143 Brigade HQ under the directions of the Commander Security Forces - West Major General Mahinda Mudalige and Brigadier Dammika Dissanayake, 143 Brigade Commander rushed to Manathivu area in Vanathawilluwa Divisional Secretariat area on Friday (20) and assisted the evacuation of stranded flood victims.
As gushing waters were flooding those hamlets, affected civilians turned to the troops who readily assisted them evacuating more than 50 civilians to safer areas. In addition, troops relocated them in nearby community centres and coordinated with Divisional Secretariat staff and Disaster Management Centre officials.
