VIR's New Colonel of the Regiment Assumes Responsibilities

Major General D.M.K.D.B Pussella RWP RSP, Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force amidst religious blessings took over duties as the new Colonel of the Regiment of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) on Wednesday (23 August) during a simple ceremony.

Upon arrival, the newly appointed Colonel of the Regiment was warmly welcomed by the Regimental Centre Commandant at the main entrance and was saluted in a Guard Turnout. Afterwards, the new Colonel of the Regiment laid a flower wreath at the War Heroes’ monument before he was honoured in a ceremonial parade in accordance with military traditions.

In the new office, Major General D.M.K.D.B Pussella RWP RSP left his signature symbolically for an official document to signify the acceptance of the new responsibility amidst chanting of Seth Pirith at his office.

In a rare gesture of touching nature, the incoming Senior Officer, Major General D.M.K.D.B Pussella’s younger son who is now, a Second Lieutenant in the Army and attached to the same Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment was on hand at the same inaugural occasion where the father, VIR new Colonel of the Regiment received the military salute from his younger son.

Leaving an indelible gesture in the compound, the new Colonel of the Regiment planted a sapling inside the camp premises on invitation, and posed for a group photograph before he made the formal address to the troops.
