Vijayabahu Infantry men take lead in tank restoration

Reminding heroic deeds of King Vijayabahu, VIR men with mammoties join together

In its show of solidarity with the government's ongoing project to renovate one thousand tanks in the country, troops of the Boyagane-based Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) recently joined hands with thousands of villagers in order to extend their might to this worthy cause.

Over 300 VIR troops, led by their Senior Officers were among thousands of other civilians who showed up at Madithiyawela Nelumpath and Peelawatte tanks to start off renovation work, launched under the auspices of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Lands and Irrigation.

Troops came forward to help the project following a request made to the VIR Regimental Headquarters by Department of Agrarian Services at Boyagane, Kurunegala.

The VIR boasts of an unbroken record of service in the battlefield for many years in the north and east as an actively deployed infantry unit and plans to engage themselves in many more community projects in time to come.

Troops actively engaged in this worthy project assured their continued cooperation to this worthy cause even in the future since this form of combined effort would help strengthen bonds of goodwill that exists between troops and members of the civil society.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Lands and Irrigation Hon. Bimal Rathnayake (MP) was at the scene to give his helping-hand too for the cause.
