Vast Array of Singing &;amp; Dancing Stars in 'Tharu Dilena Reyak –3' Performs to Support Fund-Raising for Dependent War Heroes

Awe - inspiring and dazzling musical show-piece, ‘Tharu Dilena Reyak - 3', designed to collect much-wanted funds for construction of exclusive wellness resorts (Abimansala) for totally dependent War Heroes, reverberated through a packed audience of music and dancing fans at Nelum Pokuna Saturday (29) evening.

The year’s scintillating mega musical fiesta, ‘Tharu Dilena Reyak - 3’, organized by the Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) under its ‘Brave Hearts’ project on the instructions of its President, Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, was replete with a host of eye-catching performances, presented by a galaxy of popular vocalists and artistes, ranging from ‘gramophone age’ to most modern times.
 
Mrs Shiranthi Rajapaksa, First Lady as the Chief Guest, together with distinguished invitees, like Mr Lalith Weerathunga, President’s Secretary, Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary Defence and Urban Development, accompanied by their spouses, graced the musical extravaganza at the invitation of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya and Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President, SVAB.    

Staged for the third consecutive year, this year’s scintillating spectacle, too was meticulously choreographed by the veteran artist, Chandana Wickramasinghe under specific five segments, to highlight the evolution of musical beats and performing arts in the past century. 

The mammoth entertainment, coloured by a host of veterans and megastars in the industry of music and dance outranked the other shows of the same ilk as the entire spectacle, began with yesteryear classical songs, popular hits of 70s, and later on to run with current hits and most modern rhythmic melodies, non-stop beats, Hindi favourites, comic acts and many other exceptionally attractive features, well-suited to all spectators, brought thrill and amusement. Rich colourfulness and elegance, suited to neatly-done background settings adored the annual fund-raiser throughout, giving a priceless moral boost to all the War Heroes who have become disable after fighting against terrorism and division of the country.

Proceeds from Saturday’s (29) variety show are to be channeled for construction of the ‘Abimansala - 3’ in the North Western Province (NWP) for rest and relaxation of a batch of NWP-resident dependent War Heroes under the SVAB’s ‘Brave Hearts’ project which had been proved undeniably successful in the past few years.

Sri Lanka Army, working hand in hand with the SVAB has been so far able to establish two such state-of-the-art wellness resorts (Abimansala) in Anuradhapura and Kamburupitiya. Both resorts were ceremonially opened by HE the President, Mahinda Rajapaksa, at the invitation of the Commander of the Army, the tower of strength behind realization of those projects. In addition, Attidiya ‘Mindu Seth Medura’, a similar mega project, bordering Colombo city limits, founded as a novel concept of the Secretary Defence, is now fully operational with more than 50 dependent War Heroes in place.    

As curtains pulled up, Maestro Pandith Amaradeva presented ‘Swarna Maliye-Rubara Swarna Maliye’ song at the inauguration of the show with his epoch-making rendition.     

Veteran Pandith Sanath Nandasiri, together with never-failing Sujatha Attanayake, Anjaleen Gunetillake, Latha Walpola, Anesly Malewana, Anil Bharathi, Eral Fernando, et al, contributed to the event in a magnificent manner. The combatant-turned singer, G. Gokulan and young artistes, like Suraj Mapa, Gayesha, Chili, Manjula, Nehara Peiris, Iraj, Clifford, Ravindra, Anarkali, Roshan, Hemal, Damitha, Pubudu, Hemali, Upeksha, Akalanka, Anusha, Menaka and a few others after taking their cues in a sequence, added the latest flavours, thrilled the audience, at times taking, most of the spectators down memory lane.   

The SVAB, instrumental in harnessing financial and material support for construction of wellness resorts at different provincial levels for mental and physical well-being of totally dependent disable War Heroes, expects to inaugurate its ‘Abimansala - 3’ construction shortly in the NWP with the funds thus collected.

On an initiative of the Secretary Defence and the Commander of the Army, in keeping with Mahinda Chinthana policy statement, plans are afoot to house all three hundred plus permanently disable Army War Heroes in exceptionally-designed comfortable wellness resorts with all necessary medical and clinical assistance on hand for the rest of their lives as their houses do not serve the purpose.
