US Ambassador Receives Update From Commander

US AMBASSADOR for Sri Lanka Mr. Robert O’Blake Monday (6) morning met Commander of the Army Lt. Gen. Sarath Fonseka at the Army Headquarters and received an update on the status quo, related to the near completion of military offensives in the deep north and east of Puthukkudiyiruppu in Vanni.

Lt. Gen Sarath Fonseka, giving a brief outline of the latest military achievements, loss of so many LTTE terrorist leaders in offensives, brewing civil unrest inside the No Fire Zone (NFZ) and probable future scenarios told the visiting diplomat that the remaining exodus of trapped civilians could be expected at any moment from now onwards, in view of prevailing ground realities in the NFZ.

A considerable number of middle-rung Tiger leaders are dead and gone and their organization has virtually paralyzed, unable to sustain military onslaught any longer.  Recovery of so many dead Tigers proves this situation, the Ambassador was told.

Lt. Gen Sarath Fonseka further opined that Tiger supremo, Prabhakaran, despite loss of so many of his chieftains, might still be hiding, either inside the NFZ or an underground hideout. He also told the visiting diplomat that the troops are well-prepared for receipt of more and more civilians into cleared areas.

The diplomat was accompanied by Defence attaché at the US embassy.
