H.E. Ambassador of the United States of America in Sri Lanka, Ms Julie J Chung during a tour to the Jaffna peninsula paid a courtesy call on the Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna, Major General Sujeewa Senarath Yapa at the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna on Sunday (24).
H.E. the Ambassador and her delegation were welcomed by the Jaffna Commander on arrival before interactions got underway.
Major General Senarath Yapa explained the delegation on the multi-purpose and community-oriented welfare projects, being carried out by troops serving the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna. He also in a separate presentation focused on the multitude of roles, being effected towards the promotion of reconciliation between Security Forces and the masses.
The delegation also learnt about current Army engagements and its commitment to the well-being of the people, and the promotion of peace and reconciliation in the Jaffna peninsula in order to maintain a good rapport between civilians and Security Forces.
She also in return praised the Security Forces for their contribution to the sustenance of peace in the peninsula and left compliments in the visitors’ book before her departure. She also penned saying that she appreciated the sheer commitment and dedication of the Security Forces working for peace, democracy & justice among the Jaffna people.
The Security Forces Commander and H.E. Ambassador exchanged mementoes towards the end of the cordial interactions. Brigadier General Staff at the SFHQ-J was also associated with the meeting.
