Unprecedented in Stadium History: “Tharu Dilena Reyak” Receives a Fillip to “Abimansala” Project from President's Presence

HE President Mahinda Rajapaksa in the company of Secretary to President Mr Lalith Weerathunga and Mrs Lalith Weerathunga Secretary Defence Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Mrs Ioma Rajapaksa, Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya and Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe and Mrs Samarasinghe took time off to extend his wholehearted support towards construction of the Anuradhapura ‘Abimansala’ (Wellness Resort) for permanently disable War Heroes when he enjoyed the fund-raiser, “Tharu Dilena Reyak” musical extravaganza Saturday (17) evening at Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium.

Tharu Dilena Reyak”, staged under the “Brave Hearts” project, mooted on a concept proposed by none other than the Commander of the Army himself with the lavish support received from the Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB), presided by Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, brought a galaxy of leading and most popular artistes, vocalists, stars, dancers and disable War Heroes under the canopy of the stadium’s grey sky as the packed crowd of over 4000 spectators burst into thundering applause during the chain of each and every segment of the entire show as curtains raised.

Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya at the entrance to the main podium welcomed HE the President and the VIP guests who re-affirmed their continuing concern for the well-being of the disable War Heroes whose lives have been disturbed by the violence of LTTE terrorism during their sacred mission to rescue this country from the verge of separatism.

The mammoth show, perhaps unprecedented in the recent history at Sugathadasa Stadium with thrilling performances of that magnitude comprising Anoja Weerasinghe, Sabeetha Perera, Nehara Peiris, Bathiya & Santush, Chandana Wickramasinghe, Roshan Fernando, Thilini Fernando, Nilanthi Dias, Saman Nishantha, Roshan Ranawana, Channa Perera, Oshadi Hewamadduma, Damitha Abeyratne and the same ilk brought sensation and excitement to the gala display. One of the pieces in the show, fine tuned by Mrs Anoja Weerasinghe with the participation of wheelchair-ridden War Heroes, received a thundering ovation as their skills brought tears into the eyes.

The proposed ‘Abimansala’ at Anuradhapura received the blessings of HE the President and the Secretary Defence who promptly allocated state land for the purpose in response to a request made by the Army to the government. The constructions, began in May this year, would not have been a reality in the absence of the state patronage, received from both of them.

Brave Hearts” project, having received a huge stimulus   through this variety musical show, expects to expedite the construction with the support of public funds, needed for the completion. The entire project has been estimated at Rs 200 million.
