The Deputy Force Commander (DFC) of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), Major General Chok Bahadur Dhakal, recently paid a visit to the 14 Sri Lankan Force Protection Unit (SLFPU) camp in Greenhill on 22 February 2024.
The DFC was welcomed by the 14 SLFPU Contingent Commander, Colonel D.P.L.T Kaluaggala RSP USP IG at the main entrance and was accompanied to review the Guard Turnout presented by the SLFPU troops.
Thereafter, the DFC was invited to the auditorium to witness the work and activities done by the troops during their ‘Skills Development Program’, conducted during their leisure time over the last three months. Meanwhile, the ‘Photo Board’ made and designed by the troops of the ‘Basic Graphics Designing Course’ was also introduced to the DFC by the Contingent Commander to provide insight into the designing and Information Technology skills gained by the troops during the course they followed.
Addressing the audience, the DFC appreciated the hard work done by Sri Lankan peacekeepers during their one-year tour of duty for the UNIFIL mission in a challenging environment and extended warm wishes, as the contingent is soon to be rotated in March as customary.
Afterwards, the closing address and the certificates awarding ceremony of the ‘Skills Development Program’ got underway at the same venue for those who successfully completed the 'Basic Graphics Designing Course on Adobe Photoshop' (13) and 'Basic Automobile Technology Workshop' (15). They were awarded certificates by the Contingent Commander, together with respective Course Officers. The "Skills Development Program" was launched with the objective of developing Information Technology, Automobile Technology, Automobile Electrical System and Automobile Paint Technology knowledge of the troops.
