Unforgettable Sacrifices of War Heroes’ Recalled to Memory Inaugurating ‘National War Heroes’ Month’

The Sri Lankan Nation, not forgetful of unmatched supreme sacrifices and dedicated roles of Tri-services, Police and the Civil Security Department is set to pay tribute to the memory of thousands of fallen and injured War Heroes from Friday (May 6) onwards in a series of island-wide commemorative ceremonies.

By pinning the first flag, designed for ‘Commemoration of National War Heroes’ month on HE the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa today (6) at the President’s House, the Ranaviru Seva Authority (RSA), chaired by Major General Nandana Senadeera (Retd) inaugurated the commemorative month by calling on the President who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

The national commemorative month reaches its apex on 19 May, considered as the ‘Victory Day’ at the War Heroes’ monument at Sri Jayawardenepura where placement of floral wreaths, performance of religious observance of all faiths, sounding of the symbolic Last Call and observance of vigil and illumination of the War Heroes’ monument are scheduled to take place in the presence of religious dignitaries, distinguished guests, Chief of Defence Staff, Tri-service Commanders, Inspector General of Police, Director General, Civil Security Department, family members of fallen and injured War Heroes, senior tri-service Officers, Policemen and Civil Security Department personnel.

Major General Nandana Senadeera (Retd), Chairman, Ranaviru Seva Authority symbolically pinned the first flag on the President in the presence of Hon State Minister of Defence, Prof G.L Peiris, Major General Kithsiri Ekanayake (Retd), Director, Ranaviru Seva Authority and a few others.
