UK Should Help Lanka and Cease Lecturing - Lord Naseby

"AS we look to the future, the key for us in the UK is to hopefully provide some meaningful resources to help with resettlement and to cease lecturing," said Lord Naseby in a letter of congratulations to President Mahinda Rajapaksa on the successful defeat of the LTTE.

Writing to the President shortly after the defeat of the LTTE, the British Peer adds: "Like you I have lived through this terrible saga, but it took someone of your strength of character to devise a clear strategy and the leadership to implement it."

 Lord Naseby

A leading Conservative member of the British House of Lords and former Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons Lord Naseby and is Chairman of the all-party British-Sri Lanka group.

Lord Naseby's letter to President Rajapaksa: "It is with a huge sense of relief that I congratulate you on the success of your Armed Forces in defeating the Tigers who have held Sri Lanka to ransom for 26 years.

Like you I have lived through this terrible saga, but it took someone of your strength of character to devise a clear strategy and the leadership to implement it.

I do not think I have ever done so many radio, press and television interviews supporting this cause but I did it willingly as I have always believed in a united Sri Lanka.

As we look to the future, the key for us in the UK is to hopefully provide some meaningful resources to help with resettlement and to cease lecturing.

On a personal basis I share with you both the joy of success but also the sorrow for the valiant members of your Armed Forces who died in the conflict.

May I and your friends here wish all Sri Lankans peace and prosperity in developing your beautiful country.

Lord Naseby stated that the LTTE does not represent the Tamils and either they should surrender or face the risk of being wiped out.  (Courtesy: Daily News)
