Two New National Records at the 59th Sri Lanka Army Athletics Tournament

The 59th Sri Lanka Army Athletics Tournament recently concluded at the Sugathadasa Stadium on 31 March 2024, showcasing remarkable performances and highlighting the athletes' outstanding skills.

Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, the Commander of the Army, graced the occasion as the chief guest along with Major General W.H.K.S Peiris RWP RSP VSV USP ndu, the Chief of Staff. Major General R.A.J.N. Ranasinghe RSP USP ndc, the Chairman of the Army Athletics Committee (AAC), warmly welcomed the Army Chief to the premises.

The Chairman of AAC once again extended a warm welcome to the gathering during his welcome speech before the commencement of the closing ceremony. During the ceremony, participants showcased exceptional sportsmanship skills in a range of final events, including the 100m Men, 100m Women, 1500m Men, 4x400 Men, and 4x400 Women. Additionally, displays such as the band performance, Physical Training Instructors’ demonstration, and the March Past added glamour to the occasion.

The Army Athletes achieved glory securing two national records and 13 New Meet records during the tournament. Towards the end, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage together with Senior Officers awarded medals and trophies for the achievers.

Major General S.P.A.I.M.B. Samarakoon Hdmc Lsc, the Deputy Chief of Staff, Principal Staff Officers, Senior Officers, Officers and a large crowd of spectators were present during the event.
