Troops in Thunukkai & 64 Division Support ‘Deepavali’ Festivals in Their Areas

Members of the Army, attached to 651, 652 and 653 Brigades of the 65 Division under the Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) with the intention of promoting reconciliation and goodwill supported the conduct of the holy Deepavali festival on Wednesday (18) in Alankulam, Thunukkai areas.

Troops extending their helping hand organized supply of free vegetarian meals and refreshments to the devotees on Deepavali day after offerings, ‘Poojas’ are over. Similarly, troops supported the cleaning of the temple premises, prior to the conduct of the ceremony on the previous day.

Meanwhile, troops of the 64 Division of the Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) celebrated Deepavali festival, together with Hindu devotees at Mullaittivu area during 13-18 October.

64 Division troops participated in a special offering, ‘Poojava’ to bless the serving troops on Friday (13) at Pullair Kovil in Muththiyankattu. During the offerings, troops contributed to prepare the ‘Muruthen Poojava’ during the ceremony.

More than 100 troops of the 64 Division in another initiative conducted a special Shramadana campaign on account of Deepavali to clean the Shivam Kovil premises near Oddusudan junction on Tuesday (17).

On Wednesday (18), troops distributed buns and cool drinks among the devotees aiming at Oddusudan Shivam Kovil for offerings.

Those community programmes were organized on the instructions of Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera, General Officer Commanding, 64 Division.

Officers, Other Ranks of the 64 Division and civilians attended the events.
