5 Mechanized Infantry Regiment (MIR) serving the 661 Brigade under the 66 Division of the Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) with the patronage they received from Meerigama Silver Mill Company, distributed a large quantity of coconut fertilizer and coconut seedlings among low-income families in Pooneryn on Friday (3).
Following an initiative taken by the General Officer Commanding, 66 Division, Brigadier Deepthi Jayathilake, the distribution took place in the Arasapuarkulam Battalion Training School premises in the presence of the Manager for Regional Coconut Development Board, Mr Vigu Nathan, its Assistant Manager, Mr S. Karunes and representatives of the sponsor, Meerigama Silver Mill Company.
Assistant Manager, Mr S. Karunes and one of the Coconut Development Board officials, Mr S. Sathiyendran, delivered brief lectures on the best use of fertilizer and how coconut seedlings can be grown for better revenue and uplift of living standards.
