Troops Plant 200 Mangroves around Umiri Lagoon

On account of the International Day for Conservation of the Mangrove, 8th Battalion of Sri Lanka National Guard troops under command to the 242 Brigade launched a project to plant 200 mangrove saplings covering the Umiri Lagoon area in Ampara on Monday (26).

The project was launched in coordination with the Divisional Forest Officer’s Office of the Department of Forest Conservation and with the participation of 8 Sri Lanka National Guard troops who volunteered to support the project.

The project was attended by the Conservator General of Forests, District Secretary - Ampara, Civil Affairs Officer, 242 Brigade, government officials and members of the Forest Department.
