Troops Jointly Mark International Women’s Day with Divisional Secretariat

A simple ceremony organized jointly by the Tourism Board and the Sri Lanka Army was held at the Arugambay Blue Wave Hotel to coincide with the International Women’s Day on Monday (8).

Additional District Secretary of Ampara, Mr. A.L.A Lathif, Commander, 242 Brigade, Brigadier Chandika Peiris, Deputy Commander of the South Eastern Naval Command, Commodore Nevil Obeysiri, Commanding Officer of 23 SLSR, Major W. Munasinghe, Senior Army Officers, Senior Officers of government and non-governmental organizations attended the ceremony where relief items to the value of nearly Rs 2.2 million were distributed among needy and differently-abled women.

Financial assistance provided by the National Housing Development Authority to the value of Rs 800,000 was distributed among selected homeless low-income families in Lahugala and Pottuvil divisional secretariat areas with the support of Sri Lanka Army troops.

A house built at the cost of Rs 250,000 for a differently-abled woman, in order to support her for self-employment was opened at the same ceremony.

In addition, 10 pregnant women were given dry rations, baby requirements and nutrients during the same ceremony. Similarly, the staff at the Pottuvil Base Hospital, members of the armed forces, Grama Niladhari officials, Pre - school teachers, Samurdhi Officers in the area were awarded certificates of appreciation on the same occasion. buy footwear | Nike for Men
