Troops Enable 15 Students to Cycle to Schools for Studies

In order to stimulate students for studies and facilitate their difficult routine travel movements, 232 Brigade troops of the 23 Division and 12 Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) troops, together with overseas donors jointly on Monday (04) gifted push bicycles to 15 needy school students of Kayankuda, Thikiliweddai School in Batticaloa District.

Major General Lal Chandrasiri, Commander, Security Forces - East as the Chief Guest joined the distribution ceremony.

The generous donors, Mr Janaka Samarasekara and Mrs Nimali Dissanayake, living in Australia and Mr Udaya Kumara, domiciled in the United Kingdom provided the financial sponsorship to purchase those bicycles for those needy students in the area. Parents, teachers and relatives were also present during the distribution ceremony.

The programme was conducted under the guidance of Brigadier Ruwan Wijesuriya, Commander, 232 Brigade and the Commanding Officer of 12 SLNG, Lieutenant Colonel Dinesh Senarathna. The project was launched after selecting the most deserving students from different families.

The General Officer Commanding, 23 Division, Major General Nalin Koswatte and several Senior Officers joined the distribution ceremony.
