Troops Educated on Energy &;amp; Power Conservation

To coincide with the ongoing island-wide awareness programme on Energy Conservation, the Panagoda Army Cantonment during its training day invited the Ministry of Power and Energy to deliver a lecture to the troops serving the cantonment in this regard.

Organizers as well as hundreds of service personnel were taken by surprise when the Minister of Power and Energy Mr Patali Champaka Ranawaka, himself showed up at the auditorium and spoke to them on the importance of energy conservation for more than two hours at a stretch.

Minister Ranawaka elaborating on present day challenges in the power and energy sector called upon all sections to get together in the same way as they fought against terrorism if our country is to forge ahead with sufficient energy and power.

Dr Kithsiri Dissanayake, Chairman, Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority, Mr Madhawa Waidyaratne, Director, Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority, Mr Karunasena, Deputy General Manager, Ceylon Electricity Board and Mr H.S Somathilake, General Manager, LECOL also contributed to the session.

The awareness programme has been organized on the directives given by Major General S.R. Manawaduge, Commander, Security Forces Headquarters-South (SFHQ-S).
