Troops Complete Restoration of Damaged Houses &;amp; Buildings in Aluthgama


Security Force Headquarters-West (SFHQ-West) of the Sri Lanka Army which have  been entrusted the challenge of rebuilding and renovating all damaged properties under the supervision of Commander, SFHQ -West  in communal riots-affected Aluthgama, Beruwala, Adikarigoda, Seenawatta areas, completed 95 %  of  its work at a cost of Rs 115.3 m out of total allocation of  Rs 150m.
 
President Mahinda Rajapaksa directed the Secretary Defence Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake to immediately undertake repairs to affected areas with the participation of Army and other service personnel on June 18 when the former attended a meeting of religious and civil leaders in Beruwala soon after his arrival from an overseas visit.

Troops found that Aluthgama area including Beruwala, Athuthgama town, Adikarigoda, Seenawatta, Darga town, Thunduwa and Walipana 223   houses and 83 commercial buildings were destroyed.  

However out of 223 houses, 72 were completely destroyed and 151 were partially damaged while out of 83 commercial buildings, 55 were totally destroyed and 28 remained partly damaged.
