61 Division troops of the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) on the directions of Major General Kumudu Perera, Commander, Security Forces - Wanni timely intervened and plastered a major leakage in the Vairavamundimurippu tank bund in the Kalmadu Gramaseva Division after working continuously for three days (15 - 17 Oct).
With the coordination of Brigadier K.D.C.G.J Thilakarathne, General Officer Commanding, 61 Division, 25 Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) and 17 (Volunteer) Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) troops carried out the major repair under the supervision of Colonel L.D.S.S Liyanage, 611 Brigade Commander.
With the rainy season set in, the water level of the tank swelled and caused this leakage, threatening the area with disastrous consequences.
