Troops Assist Conduct of ‘Katina Pinkama’ in Jaffna Naga Vihara

Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J), together with sister services, Police and the Jaffna Municipal Council as in previous years assisted the conduct of the annual ‘Katina Pinkama’ (retreat during rainy season) at Sri Naga Vihara, Jaffna during October 28-29 under the auspices of Ven Meegahajandure Siri Vimala Thero, Viharadhikari, Sri Naga Vihara, Jaffna.

On the instructions of Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna (SF-J), 51 Division troops assisted it in various ways, prior to the conduct of it and also during the ceremony.

A colourful pageant, comprised of cultural performances of up country and low country, and the Jaffna peninsula walked the main streets of Jaffna city Saturday (28) evening as many people looked on. Members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, Jaffna schools, dancing institutes and donors got together and assisted to make the event a success.

The procession started at the 512 Brigade Headquarters and ended in the Sri Naga Vihara International Buddhist Centre premises.

An all night Pirith chanting at the Naga Vihara followed offer of Heel Daana (breakfast) for 40 Buddhist monks Sunday (29) morning after the Katina Cheevara (robe) was brought in procession to the temple.

Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi, Commander, SF-J, together with Senior Officers attended the alms-giving, offering of Atapirikara to Bhikkus and all other observances.

Religious leaders, government officials and a large crowd of civilians witnessed the event in the temple premises.
