Trincomalee Eye Camp Donates Spectacles

The Army serving Trincomalee area has in the past 2 years launched multifarious humanitarian projects for the benefit of low-income groups living in remote areas.

As part of this programme, a special eye clinic was conducted on Saturday (19) at Trincomalee Jayasumanarama Temple, covering people living in Trincomalee suburbs and Kadawath Pradeshiya Divisional Secretariat.

Over 450 people from those areas received medical consultations and spectacles during this full-day clinic, supported by Colombo’s Sri Lanka Association for the Blind. More than 10 medical specialists supported the conduct of the eye clinic, organized by the troops at 22 Division, commanded by Brigadier Darshana Hettiarachchi, General Officer Commanding, 22 Division.

Trincomalee, being a port city has people from three major communities, Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim and most of them are living in remote areas away from townships.
