Tri-Service Family Members & Teachers in Wanni Learn About Contemporary Challenges

A project intending to educate tri-service families of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Police and teachers in the Vavuniya Education Zone on ‘Domestic Violence, Child Abuses & Repercussions’ in the context of present day social trends and social media was launched at the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) on Monday (17).

Over 1500 family members in the Wanni gathered to listen to eminent experts on those thematic subjects under the guidelines given by the founder of the programme Major General Kumudu Perera, Commander, Security Forces - Wanni.

The Chief Inspector of Police in the Children and Women’s Bureau, Mr. Manoj Samarasekara, spoke on child abuses, ill-treatment and effects of social media / anti-social trends, highlighting several incidents of criminal nature and pointed out that most perpetrators themselves are the ones that have suffered in the same manner during their early childhood. Further, he emphasized the importance of restoring moral values and ethics in the society to prevent crimes against children.

The awareness programme was made more interesting by Mr Sumith Madanayake and Mr. Sachin Dushyantha by singing several classical songs and proses that speak of moral values.

General Officers Commanding of 21, 54, 56 and 61 Divisions, Senior Staff Officers of Security Force Headquarters - Wanni, Officers representing sister services, many Senior Officers, Officers and large number of Other Ranks from all under command formations enthusiastically attended the programme.
