23 Gajaba Regiment (23 GR) troops of the 122 Infantry Brigade and the 12 Infantry Division under the Security Force HQ - Central (SFHQ-Central) launched a civil community-oriented welfare programme to supply free school aid packs, including school bags, each worth Rs. 5,500.00 for 150 students at Kirindagama Primary School, Kirinda on Friday (Mar 24) at the school premises.
This was made possible with the kind patronage offered by a group of philanthropists, known to the SFHQ-Central through the coordination of troops. The project was initiated by Lieutenant Colonel K.A.S Gunawardena, Commanding Officer (CO), 23 GR under the guidance of Brigadier Nadeeka Kulasekara, Commander, 122 Infantry Brigade and with the blessings of Major General Mihidu Perera, General Officer Commanding, 12 Infantry Division HQ.
Major General Mohan Rathnayake, Commander, SF-Central gave his nod to go ahead with the welfare project that benefited some 150 students of low-income group families in Kirinda area.
