The Gajaba Regiment (GR) Regimental Headquarters at Saliyapura on Wednesday (05) in a formal ceremony bade farewell to three of its outstanding Senior Officers, Major General Sanath Aluvihare, Major General Shantha Ranaweera and Brigadier Udaya Serasinghe who were to retire has added colour to the Regiment as well as the Sri Lanka Army.
The day’s event began with Guard Turnout salutes at the entrance to all three Officers on arrival in turn before floral tributes were paid to the GR's founding father late Major General Vijaya Wimalarathna's statue. Colourful and dignified military parades that saluted them respectively got underway at the parade ground where all retiring seniors reviewed the Guard of Honour with the parade commander.
Leaving memories, three senior officers soon after the parades sat for group photographs, together with officers and other ranks before they were invited to the customary all rank tea arrangement.
The day's formalities reached its climax as dusk fell when the formal farewell dinner got underway at GR Officers' Mess the same evening, where the retiring Officers' service to the Army was lavishly hailed and awarded three separate special mementoes by Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Colonel of the Regiment and Commander of the Army. The Centre Commandant, Brigadier Wishwajith Vidyananda and senior officers were present at the location.
