Upon generosity, extended by a philanthropist in Pliyandala area through the coordination of the Commanding Officer of 14 (v) Gemunu Watch, Lieutenant Colonel G.H.J.I Wijerathne, troops on 23 November 2022 distributed dry ration packs among 40 students at Galle district -based Omantha Maha Vidyalaya, along with the donation of two Desktop computers with accessories.
The area is served by 613 Infantry Brigade troops.
As per the guidance given by the General Officer Commanding, 61 Infantry Division, Major General Udaya Herath, the Commander 613 Infantry Brigade with troops of the 14 (v) Battalion the Gemunu Watch of the 613 Infantry Brigade of the Security Force HQ-West launched the programme in order to relieve economic burdens and help their IT knowledge.
Each ration pack included rice, dhal, sugar and tea packs to the value of Rs. 2,000/= and the total cost of the project was around Rs 380,000.00 including the cost for both computers.
Second in Command of 14 (V) GW, Officers and Other Ranks participated in the donation programme.
