The coordination of the Commander, 233 Brigade Colonel Wasantha Hewage enabled 100 needy students in Vakare area receive school accessories as incentives for studies following sponsorship provided by philanthropist in response to a request, made by the 233 Brigade of the 23 Division of the SFHQ-East.
The initiative, aimed at supporting education of sons and daughters in less-privileged schools was conducted in line with the series of community-oriented welfare programmes organized by the Sri Lanka Army where Major General Lal Chandrasiri, Commander, Security Forces-East took part as the Chief Guest and distributed those gift parcels during his maiden field visit to the area on Tuesday (21).
The Commander and the troops of the 233 Brigade organized the charity event in coordination with school authorities. The General Officer Commanding 23 Division Major General Nalin Koswatte also joined the distribution.
Those deserving students were from Vakare Maha Vidyalaya, Uriyankattu GTM School, Thaddumunai Vinayagar Vidyalaya, Kandalady Arunthathy Vidyalaya and Panichchanrerny Thirumagal Vidyalaya who are undergoing economic hardships.
