Student Officers in AWC Familiarize with Role & Tasks at Army HQ

Student Officers in the Senior Command Course (SCC) - 10 of the Army War College (AWC) at Buttala participated in a familiarization module of their course curriculum at the Army Headquarters, Sri Jayawardenepura on Wednesday (13 Mar).

The objective of this visit was to gain basic knowledge about the duties within various branches and directorates of the Army.

The SCC - 10 is comprised of 29 student Officers representing various Regiments in the Army. Major General U.K.D.D.P. Udugama RWP RSP USP ndu psc, the Commandant of the AWC, Colonel M.D.S.N. Karunarathne psc, Chief Instructor of AWC and Senior Staff Officers accompanied those student Officers.

As soon as the team arrived at Army HQ, Major General K.P.S.A. Fernando RWP RSP ndu, Director General Infantry formally received Major General S.P.A.I.M.B. Samarakoon Hdmc Lsc, Deputy Chief of Staff to the occasion as chief guest. Afterwards, Deputy Chief of Staff, Senior Officers of the AHQ posed for a group photograph with student Officers and accompanying Officers.

Afterwards, Major General P.K.S. Nandana RSP USP, Director General, Directorate of Training delivered a lecture on the topic ‘Role of a Contemporary Battalion Commander’ at the premises before an interactive question and answer session got underway.

The SCC - 10 team visited the Directorate of Operations, its Operations Room and the Directorate of Media and Psychological Operations. At each location, they were briefed on the role and tasks of each Directorate. Principal Staff Officers, Senior Officers and Officers were also present during the visit.
