Hon. Premitha Bandara Tennakoon, State Minister of Defence, Mr Sagala Ratnayaka, Chief of Staff and Senior Advisor to the President on National Security jointly made a visit to the Mihindu Seth Medura (MSM) in Attidiya, the wellness resort for permanently-wounded War Heroes on Friday (24) afternoon and inquired into their well-being.
The visiting State Minister of Defence and the Chief of Staff and Senior Advisor to the President on National Security were saluted in a formal military Guard Turnout at the entrance to the Mihindu Seth Medura' before they were received warmly by Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army alongside the Chief of Defence Staff, General Shavendra Silva and Brigadier T.S Balasooriya, Commandant at Mihindu Seth Medura.
Afterwards, the day's visitors went into MSM wards and saw for themselves how recuperative and rehabilitation practces are carried out inside the location where a total of 28 injured War Heroes are resident for the remainder of their lives. They also shared few thoughts with those wounded War Heroes and inquired into their needs.
After a while, the day's visitors interacted with resident War Heroes during refreshments and jointly awarded special gift parcels to those veterans who before May 2009 sacrificed their legs and limbs for the sake of the unitary status of the country.
Before their departure, the Army Chief presented appreciative mementos to the visitors after they left some complimentary remarks in the MSM Visitors' Book. Mr Danushka Ramanayake, Director General, President's Media Unit was also associated with the programme.
The arrangement also coincided with the birthday of the President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces.
Major General M.G.W.W.W.M.C.B Wickramasinghe RWP RSP ndu psc, Adjutant General of the Army, Several Senior Officers and Officers also were present during the occasion.
