State Minister of Defence Visits Sri Lanka Army Engineer Division

The State Minister of Defence, Hon. Premitha Bandara Tennakoon, together with the Director General of the Disaster Management Centre, Major General H.M.U. Herath (Rtd) RWP RSP USP psc Hdmc, paid a visit to the Sri Lanka Army Engineer Division on 26 March 2024 with the intention of inspecting the Army’s capabilities of Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear Explosive (CBRNE) response, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and Humanitarian Demining Unit (HDM).

Major General M.K. Jayawardena RSP VSV USP ndu, the Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force and Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Engineers, warmly welcomed the State Minister of Defence upon his arrival to the premises.

The visit commenced with a documentary showcasing the journey and accomplishments of the Sri Lanka Engineers, highlighting their evolution into a unit equipped with advanced technology. Following the documentary, the State Minister of Defence addressed the troops of the Division, appreciating their dedication, bravery, and steadfast commitment to national security.

A series of detailed briefing sessions were conducted, providing insights into the Division's operational strategies and methodologies. This was complemented by equipment displays and live demonstrations, showcasing the advanced technological tools and techniques utilized by the Division in CBRNE, EOD, and HDM operations.

Towards the end, the Commandant of Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force presented a special memento to the State Minister of Defence symbolizing the visit to the Sri Lanka Army Engineer Division.

Major General A.H.L.G. Amarapala RWP RSP ndc psc, the Director General Financial Management, Major General S.A. Kulatunge RWP RSP VSV USP psc, Chief Field Engineer, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks were also present during the visit.
