Sri Lankan Soldiers Secure Runners-up Slot in UNFIL Competitive Events

The Sri Lanka Force Protection Company serving the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in Naqoura, secured the runners-up slots in the UNIFIL- organized Steeplechase /Cross Fit competitive events for the first time. Four Sri Lankan soldiers participated in the Steeplechase event and two more soldiers competed in the Cross fit competition, held on 30th July 2021 at UNIFIL HQ, Naqoura.

The Welfare & Recreation Committee of the UNIFIL organized the Steeplechase \ Cross Fit competition & the Food bazaar that followed after the competitions. All contingents in the UNIFIL HQ Camp in Naqoura took part in this Open Day event, designed to improve the awareness of health, fitness and interaction among the military and civilian peacekeepers who came from various nations around the world.

Deputy Head of Mission Mr Jack Christofides, Deputy Force Commander, Brigadier General Irvine Nil-Ayitey Aryeetey, Director Mission Support-Ms Melva Crouch & Chief of Staff, Brigadier General Hubert Gomart participated in the awarding ceremony. Sri Lanka Force Protection Company also participated in the Food Bazaar where Sri Lankan cuisine was made available for all visitors.
