Sri Lanka Women’s Corps Marks its 25th Anniversary

The Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC) Regimental Headquarters at Borella commemorated its 25th Anniversary in a series of events amidst military formalities under the guidance of Major General M.K Jayawardena, Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Women’s Corps and Chief Field Engineer on Monday (14).

Coincident with the anniversary, those troops in a special project went to the Camila School in Mattegoda for children with special needs and distributed gift parcels, dry rations, medicine, sanitary items, etc sponsored jointly Mr Prasad Lokubalasuriya of ‘Suwadaru’ foundation, the Old Boys Association of Royal College-Colombo 07, Old Students Union of University of Sri Jayawardanepura and the members of the fund-raising committee of ‘Nirogikama Agayana Sakala Sri Lankawasi/Lokawasi Mithurukala,’ Professor Samanthi Senarathne, Miss Niluka Wickramarachchi Pieris, Miss Ishaka Liyanarachchi and Miss Kaushalya Jayathilake.

Those children were entertained to a musical session and a delicious lunch toward the end of the programme at this school. The Colonel Commandant of SLAWC, Chairperson of SLAWC-SVB, Centre Commandant of SLAWC with his spouse and other donors and their representatives were present at the programme.

On the anniversary day (15), members of the Maha Sangha were offered breakfast (Heel Dana) before a formal Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour saluted the Colonel Commandant, Major General M.K. Jayawardane after his arrival at the premises. A Bodhi Pooja in the evening added religious sentiments with the participation of women soldiers.

The Centre Commandant of SLAWC, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks were present at the brief ceremony on the anniversary day.
