Soldiers’ Poetic Graffiti Come to Colombo

A rare and most deserving, if not a worthy attempt to showcase creative poetic skills of soldiers who sacrificed enormously for the defence of the country’s territorial integrity is scheduled to take place on Saturday (30) at Defence Services College, Colombo 2 by way of a mega exhibition of ‘Bunker Kurutu Gee’ (bunker graffiti).

This Arrya Foundation - organized exhibition, claimed to be the world’s first-ever display of such poems, quatrains and graffiti, compiled by Army soldiers while they were serving in various parts of the island, particularly during the times of Humanitarian Operations before May 2009, reflects and mirrors their aesthetic skills as well as their passions and thinking while they were either in underground bunkers or serving elsewhere.

Defining the Exhibition as a tribute to unidentified soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice for the sake of the country’s defence, the organizers term the arrangement as an attempt to ‘immortalize the memories of those patriots and preserve the history of the country’.

The Exhibition begins at 10.00 am on June 30 is open to the public till the same evening.
