Soldier-Turned Novelist Presents His Award-Winning Book to Commander

A copy of the award-winning novel, authored by the soldier, Lance Corporal Sujeewa Kumara Kovilathenna of 2 Gemunu Watch (GW) on the theme, 'Wekadawara' was presented to the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake by the author during a meeting he has had with the Commander this afternoon (14) at the Army Headquarters.

The novel revolves around 'Uva-Wellassa Rebellion in 1818' is dedicated to the memory of his mentors and won awards in the 'Uva Region State Literary Festival - 2016', 'Godage Awards for Best Creative Writer'. It was also selected for the recommended award in the 'State Literary Festival - 2017'.

Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, together with Major General Dampath Fernando, Deputy Chief of Staff and Colonel of the Regiment, GW and Brigadier Jayampathi Thilakarathne, Centre Commandant, GW during the brief meeting, extended his warm wishes to the budding writer and had a brief interaction with him about his literary roles and writing skills.

Upon receipt of the copy of the book, the Commander perused through a couple of pages and referred to some of the contexts in the book. The novelist has also authored two more books.
