Softball Cricket Tournament in Jaffna Draws Large Gathering

The 553 Infantry Brigade of the 55 Division of the Security Force HQ-Jaffna with the objective of further cementing existing bonds of goodwill and understanding between civilians and members of the armed forces organized a softball cricket tournament among civil sports clubs in the peninsula during 15-22 November with the participation of 8 teams of those clubs.

Barathi Sports Club and Sri Murugan Sports Club faced finals on Sunday (27) at Thaleyedy Public Ground. Sri Murugan Sports Club after a close encounter carried the championship in the tournament.

The Army band and dancing troupes provided music and entertainment as the cricket match was in progress and Major General Prasanna Gunaratne, General Officer Commanding 55 Infantry Division as the Chief Guest gave away trophies and certificates to the winners at the end of the tournament.

Rev. Father Amal Raj of Kaddaikadu Church, Mr P Moorthi, Marathankerni Divisional Secretary, Grama Seva Officials of the area, Commander, 552 Infantry Brigade, Staff Officers of the 55 Infantry Division, Commanding Officers, 10 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment and 12 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, Officers, Other Ranks and a large gathering of villagers witnessed the final match.

Semi-finals of the tournament took place during the final week of November (15-22) before the finals kicked off on 27 November 2022.
