The Inter Regiment Carrom Tournament - 2017, organized by the Army Carrom Committee, got underway at the Sri Lanka Signal Corps (SLSC), auditorium in Panagoda Army Cantonment during 27 - 29 September.
Teams representing 15 Regiments participated in the tournament.
The finals and the awards ceremony of the tournament took place on Friday (29) in the presence of Major General Shantha Liyanage, Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Service Corps (SLASC), who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest at the invitation of Brigadier Ranjith Dharmasiri, Chairman, Army Carrom Committee.
Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) won the team championship while Sri Lanka Engineers (SLE) and Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) won the second and third places respectively.
In the Women’s category, 6 (V) SLAWC won the championship while 3 (V) SLAWC and 5 (V) SLAWC secured second and third places accordingly.
Private M.J.D Reginold of the 17 (V) VIR was adjudged as the most outstanding player of the tournament while Private E.P.N.M Gunadasa of the 6 (V) Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC) became the outstanding woman player of the tournament.
Major D.C.S.K Athukorala of the 21 SLSR secured the championship title in the veterans’ event.
The Chief Guest gave away awards and certificates to the winners.
