SLSR Corporal Lays His Life whilst on Duty

The 3 (V) Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment’s (SLSR) Corporal K.M.S.K Herath of Dutuwewa, Galenbindunuwewa joined the list of dedicated heroes of the country, having laid his precious life for the sake of his own citizens whilst on committed duties at Great Western mountains in Thalawakelle on Wednesday (2 August).

It was early on Wednesday, Lindula Police turned to the Army emergency assistance as they wanted troops’ help to bring down the dead body of an unknown woman who had died apparently after a fall from the Great Western, the 7th tallest mountain in Sri Lanka, situated in Thalawakelle, Nuwara Eliya.

However, 3 (V) SLSR troops along with their comrade, Corporal K.M.S.K Herath, a father of three daughters began rushing to the mountain area under the supervision of an Officer along with a 20-member team carrying ropes and other rescue equipment.

Unexpectedly, the 37-year old soldier with a service of 15-years developed an instant heart ache as he was climbing up with others for the task. Fellow troops immediately gave initial first aid treatment, but the Officer in charge of the expedition with several others, hurriedly took steps to rush him to the Nuwara Eliya Hospital for immediate medical attention as his condition was turning worse.

Nevertheless, Corporal K.M.S.K Herath was pronounced dead on admission to the hospital on Wednesday (2 August) afternoon. His post-mortem is underway as this report was filed.
