SLMA Officer Cadets Undertake Field Visits to MIR Regimental HQ & SFHQ-Jaffna

A group of 137 Officer Cadets of Intakes 91 and 91 B, from the Sri Lanka Military Academy, (SLMA) paid visits to the Regimental Centre - Mechanized Infantry Regiment (MIR) at Dambuluhalmillewa on Monday (25) and the Security Force HQ-Jaffna (SFHQ-J) during 27-28 July as a part of their training curriculum.

Brigadier A. M. A Abeysinghe, the MIR Centre Commandant welcomed the visiting Officer Cadets upon arrival at the RHQ - MIR before they received a formal presentation on Mechanized Infantry Regiment and also a briefing on the War Heroes' Monument. Afterwards, they witnessed a demonstration of attacking enemy hideouts at platoon level with ICVs and APCs.

Finally, visiting Officer Cadets interacted with Regimental Staff Officers at the Officers' Mess. At the end of the session, Officer Cadets presented an appreciative memento to the MIR Centre Commandant before their departure.

They continued their visit to the SFHQ Jaffna. On behalf of Major General Chandana Wijayasundara, the Commander, Security Forces-Jaffna, the visiting Officer Cadets were warmly welcomed by the Brigadier General Staff at the Security Force Headquarters -Jaffna, Brigadier Shashika Perera.

The visiting delegation composed of134 local officer cadets and 3 foreign officer cadets representing Zambia and the Maldives. They were given a comprehensive briefing on the Jaffna peninsula, its origin and development of the Security Forces-Jaffna, role and responsibility of the Security Forces in Jaffna. A brief presentation on civil-military cooperation projects and military aid to the civil community was then presented by Colonel General Staff of Security Forces Headquarters (Jaffna), Colonel K.A Pushpakumara.

During the visit, the delegation visited Jaffna Fort, Jaffna Library, Sangupiddy Bridge, EPS War Heroes Monument, Manalkadu Sand Dunes, Northernmost Notch in Sri Lanka at Sakkotei, Wallipuram Kovil, Dambakola Patuna Ponnale and Keeramalai Pond. At the end of the session, Officer Cadets of the Intake 91 presented a memento to the Commander - Security Forces (Jaffna), Major General Chandana Wijayasundara as a token of appreciation. The Commander - Security Forces-Jaffna also presented mementoes to Officer Cadets of the Intake 91 and foreign officer cadets to mark their visit to the Security Force HQ- Jaffna.
