The Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) troops at Panagoda SLLI Regimental HQ on Thursday (April 06) marked the dawn of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year festival in a separate celebration, headed by Major General Channa Weerasuriya, Chief of Staff and Colonel of the Regiment, SLLI, together with his spouse Mrs Danusha Weerasuriya, Chairperson of SLLI Seva Vanitha Branch.
The SLLI New Year festival was comprised of a large number of traditional games and fun-making features such as cross country race, climbing of the grease pole, pillow fighting, tug of war, fancy dress competition etc. The venue was coloured with the village chieftain's mock residence (Arachchila Walawwa), rural house (Gemi Gedara) and typical New Year modals.
Awards to the winners in those games and competitions were distributed by the Chief Guest together with several SLLI Senior Officers.
Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks and families took part in the series of events, conducted during the SLLI New Year Festival.
