SLLI Adds New Chapter by Inaugurating Its Own Printing Press: Army Contributes to Tree-Planting

Sri Lanka Army’s Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment (SLLI), the oldest infantry regiment which has carved a niche for itself in the annals of military history, having produced the most number of Commanders to-date, added a new chapter to its onward march this morning (18) when it opened its own printing press in the premises.

The SLLI, which has been producing the ‘White Hackle’ magazine with various pictorial stories, related to SLLI all ranks used to get its magazine printed out at a heavy cost before the state-of-the-art new printing press was commissioned today (18) by the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake who himself toiled hard to make the project a reality as a veteran infantryman.

Major General Crishantha de Silva, Chief of Staff received the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake on arrival and directly accompanied the Chief Guest to inaugurate the commissioning of the new SLLI printing machine, flanked by SLLI Colonel of the Regiment Major General K.A.D.A.G Karunasekara, Major General Jagath Dias, Adjutant General, Major General A.K.S Perera, Commander, Security Forces Headquarters - West (SFHQ-West) and other senior officers.

The Chief Guest on pressing a button made the new printing machine run and closely inspected its product with interest as it would help all other Army publications too in the future in terms of cost-cutting and thrift.

Minutes after that ceremony, the Commander coinciding with the National Tree Planting Week (Nov 18-25) planted a tree sapling in the SFHQ-West premises at the invitation of Major General A.K.S Perera, Commander, SFHQ-West.

Major General Crishantha de Silva, Chief of Staff, Major General E.P de Z Abeysekara, Deputy Chief of Staff and Major General A.K.S Perera, Commander, SFHQ-West simultaneously, followed suit and joined the arrangement.
